A video circulating online shows thousands of residents walking on streets with the claim that these are residents in a South-East community fleeing from attacks of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The 59 seconds footage showed thousands of youths including women and children with luggages fleeing away from their community while some riding motorcycles. A verified X user, @dipoaina1 with over 36,300 followers posted the clip on September 12, 2024 with the caption; “Residents in South east community are fleeing from the IPOB terrorist”.
The post has garnered over 16,200 views, 106 replies, 90 reposts and quotes, 214 likes and 24 bookmarks as of the time this report was published.
The replies under the post had differing opinions, @ade_yoruba2024 replied with the caption: “Yorubas need to start chasing the people away. WE ARE PLAYING WITH FIRE ALLOWING SUCH INFLUX OF BASTARDS INTO OUR MIDST”. Another X user, @AlabiAlapa2003 also replied with, “They are heading to west.”
@kingBuchyk replied saying, ”U go wake up with one old video Omo these guys are gone for good 😂” while @MadukaOgwueleka’s reply on the post said, “Keep crying. Whether una like it or not, Biafra must exit from the failed zoo”.
VERIFICATION
The keyframes from the clip were put through reverse image search and the results showed an earlier version of the video from November 2022 on Facebook.
“People of Eha-Amufu in Enugu State are running away from there village oooo,
oh God we need your help in this country called Nigeria🙌🙏Amabest home page”, the caption posted on November, 24, 2022 reads.
Further searches also showed that Igbere TV reported on the incident two years ago, the headline from the report reads, “kidnapping In Enugu Communities On The Rise As Residents Vacate Their Home (Photos, Video)”.
The report’s content states that, “ a video shared online has captured residents of Udi community in Enugu State vacating their homes for safety reasons following incessant attack from terrorists in the region, IGBERETV reports”.
CONCLUSION
The claim that the video shows the IPOB attack in the South-East community is MISLEADING, though findings show that the video was from Eha-Amufu community in Enugu, a southeastern state in Nigeria but the purported attack was from November 2022.
