On January 21, 2025, a TikTok user @g.g.orumwense.tv.1  posted a video  claiming that some APC leaders were planning to burn down the Edo state tribunal court in a bid to get rid of evidence from the 2024 Edo state gubernatorial elections.

The caption for this post reads, “Breaking news APC leaders and Thugs plumbing to burn down 👇👎 Edo state tribuna court today because the PDP evidence. #viral #view #highlight #everyone #viralpost #viralfollowers #edostate #benincity #nigeria #peruze #tessy #ltaly #genova #tik_tok #Andora”

In the 6 minutes, 21 seconds video, @g.g.orumwense.tv.1 said he had gotten some first hand information regarding attacks, fake police and fake petitions at the courtroom and then he called on security personnels to tighten their security for the tribunal.

VERIFICATION

The TikTok user, @g.g.orumwense.tv.1 (KING PERUZE 1) who posted this claim on the platform posts videos on controversial political happenings in Edo state and various types of short form videos on his page.

Following the Edo state governorship election that happened on September 21, 2024, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, APC was declared the winner of the election. Recently, Asue Ighodalo of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP opened his case at the election tribunal by tendering key documents to support his petition.

NV-A subjected this claim to a Google search and the results revealed there have been attacks and acts of violence surrounding the Edo state election tribunal petition. Daily Sports reported that there was an invasion of the tribunal court venue by some political thugs on January 18, 2025. The Guardian also reported that officers of the Department of State Services, DSS allegedly attacked journalists present at the tribunal.

However, there has not been any clear indication that an arson attack has or is about to happen at the moment. A look through the Edo state judiciary website for any information regarding the matter turned up nothing on the claim, but The Punch reported that there has been tightened security around the tribunal court following rise in violence

CONCLUSION

The claim that some APC leaders and thugs are planning to burn down the Edo state tribunal court lacks SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE. The electoral tribunal is still ongoing and in its second week of proceedings.
