CLAIM: The Federal Government’s 3MTT Program is Giving Out Free Laptops and MTN Routers

A Google Docs link has been circulating on WhatsApp with the claim that The 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) , a Federal Government-owned project is giving out free laptops grants with MTN routers and 30 gigabytes of data.

The forwarded WhatsApp message had the following details: “The Application For The 3MTT Laptop Grant 2024! is Available � Are you a Nigerian passionate about tech and innovation? The 3 Million Technical Talents (3MTT) Program is giving out FREE laptops and MTN MiFi devices with 30GB data to empower young talents and build Nigeria's digital economy!”

“This scheme is open to all students who for financial reasons are not in a position to purchase a laptop of their own and are in need of laptop in their level of education. Over 960,000 students will be given free laptops to enhance their learning. Application has begun and students that have applied have started getting their laptops. Register and apply here

VERIFICATION

NV-A’s search revealed that the claim and Google form had been debunked on the official handles of 3MTT with emphasis that they are not giving out any laptop grant at the moment as claimed by the circulated link. Their statements can be found on X, and LinkedIn

Also, the fact-checker reached out on WhatsApp to Lukman Adeoti, one of 3MTT community managers for Osun State, who also clarified that the program is not giving out laptops to participants.

CONCLUSION

The claim that the 3MTT is giving out free laptops grants with MTN routers and 30 gigabytes of data is FALSE as the google doc and claim has been debunked by the 3MTT on social media.
