Did Heavy Rain Wash Off Gombe-Adamawa Road?

On August 5, 2025, a TikTok user posted a 15 second video claiming that  a bridge from Gombe to Adamawa state had collapsed due to heavy rain fall. The video shows how the Road had been divided with flowing water and the travellers asking for help, with one of the travellers behind the camera who spoke in Hausa saying “people on TikTok should pray for them they cannot cross as heavy rain destroy the road that links Gombe to Adamawa”, with the video having the inscription, “GOMBE TO ADAMAWA ROAD PRAY FOR TRAVELLERS.”

At the time this video was published, it had reached about 115,000 people with over 2,300 likes, comments, bookmarks and shares.

VERIFICATION

The Gombe-Adamawa-Taraba road, which is also known as the Numan-Gombe Federal Road is a vital transportation corridor linking northeastern Nigeria’s Gombe, Adamawa, and Taraba states. This road spans approximately 245 kilometers and serves as a crucial artery for both passenger and freight traffic, facilitating the movement.

NV-A conducted a Reverse Google Image search and the results showed that the incident happened in 2024. The original video was posted here by Trust TV in September 2024, showing commuters crying for help.

In September 2024, the Numan-Gombe section of the Gombe-Adamawa road experienced significant disruptions due to severe flooding and infrastructure failure. The flooding led to the collapse of a bridge in Boshikiri Community, halting vehicular movement and stranding commuters. The situation worsened in early October 2024 when a temporary alternative route was also washed away, leaving no viable passage for travelers.

Currently, the road is undergoing significant infrastructural improvements as the Minister of State for Works and Housing, Engr Abubakar Aliyu, assured that the federal government was committed to delivering qualitative roads that will stand the test of time.

CONCLUSION

The video claiming that travellers were stranded due flood washing off Gombe-Adamawa road is MISLEADING. The visual accompanying this claim is from 2024, not a recent development as claimed.
