Did PM Netanyahu Say That Israel Will Rescue Or Recognize Biafra Nation?

On June 6, 2025, an X user @MatthewEkong made a claim that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared he would come to rescue his brothers in Africa, promising to recognise  the United States of Biafra. The post had an image of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with the caption “Breaking: The Prime Minister of Israel, @netanyahu  say: He is coming to rescue his brothers in Africa because they have fought for their independence for so long, he said that, he believe in Africa – Biafra Nation. The state of Israel will recognise the United States of Biafra!”.

As of when this report was published, the claim had over 32,000 views and over 1,000 likes, comments, shares and bookmarks. In the comments, @Frankmezor wrote “Why did you not put the video so we can also hear what you heard directly from the source 🤣🤣🤣 Ewu” and @OkoliA69721 said “Please when did he say so”.

VERIFICATION

The researcher carried out a thorough search of Israeli government press releases, official social media channels, and reputable international news sources like CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera,  and Times of Israel, but found no record of Prime Minister Netanyahu making such a recent statement.

Findings revealed that during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970), Israel, alongside some Western nations, provided humanitarian aid to the people of Biafra even while also supporting Nigeria. However, Israel never officially recognised Biafra as an independent nation, and there is no indication of a policy change since then.

Further checks showed that Netanyahu’s only public reference to Biafra was a historical mention during a Holocaust Day speech. He said “It is true that since World War II, no tragedy on the scale of the Holocaust has occurred, but there are many cases in which the world just stood by and did nothing to prevent the destruction of peoples or mass murder: in Biafra, in Cambodia, in Rwanda, in Sudan and indeed, also in Syria.”.

CONCLUSION

The claim that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he will “rescue his brothers in Africa” and that Israel will recognise the United States of Biafra is FALSE. There is no official statement, credible news report, or verified video to support this assertion.
