Did A Secondary School Girl Kill Her Teacher In Akwa Ibom State?

On July 16, 2025, a Facebook user posted three pictures on a public group with an accompanying claim that the young girl in the picture shot and killed her school teacher in Akwa Ibom state. The poster alleged that the girl had killed the teacher who trimmed her hair for carrying a hairstyle, not approved by the school.

This claim was posted with the girl’s image holding a gun from 3 different angles, and captioned ”This little girl from Akwa Ibom, still in secondary school, had just made new braids and came to school. When she arrived, a teacher stopped her and said her hairstyle wasn’t the approved style for that week, and that she had to remove it. The girl begged. She told the teacher that her hair was still new, that it was painful to take it out, and that she had even spent good money to get it done. She asked if she could at least keep it for a week before loosening it. But the teacher didn’t agree. Next thing, they started going back and forth, and before you knew it, the teacher grabbed scissors and cut the girl’s hair. Not just the extensions… she even cut her real hair. The girl went home that day. The next morning, she came back to school with a locally made gu#. She walked straight to the teacher’s office, pointed the gu# at her head… and sh°t her. The gu# looked so old and useless that nobody would believe it could even work, but it did. Now, the question is, where did she even get that kind of gu# from? Who gave it to her? She’s still a minor, and you know how Nigeria is… minors don’t usually go to prison. And as far as I know, we don’t even have proper juvenile centers in this country. The whole story is cr?zy.”

VERIFICATION

The images were put through Google reverse image search and results showed it is not a recent image.

In February 2021, a 17‑year old Senior Secondary 2 student identified as Promise Idorenyin of Community Secondary School, Ikot Ewa in Akpabuyo local government area, Cross River State, brought a locally made double‑barrel pistol to school. Luckily, she was caught before any harm was done. The girl was reported to have confessed that she brought the gun to shoot her teacher for telling her to cut her coloured hair.

However, the Cross River Police Commissioner, Sikiru Akande, clarified that the girl did not bring the gun to shoot her teacher. Rather, she claimed that the gun was being taken to a blacksmith for repairs, at her boyfriend’s request, although she brought it to school to show her friends rather than to commit violence. The Commissioner said the double-barrel gun was discovered in her school bag by the principal of the school.

The teenager told authorities she had no animosity towards her teachers, contrary to early rumours that she intended to shoot the vice principal for telling her to change her dyed hair to black.

The report that she brought the gun after being rebuked for dyeing her hair and planned to shoot the teacher was dismissed as untrue

The police also revealed that Ms. Idorenyin is reportedly a member of a local female cult group called Sky Queen Confraternity.

CONCLUSION

The claim that a young girl shot and killed her school teacher in Akwa Ibom state is MISLEADING.  The image is not recent and is from an incident in Cross River state, not Akwa Ibom state. Additionally, no gun death or related violence was recorded from the incident
