VERIFICATION
Simon Ekpa, a Finnish citizen of Nigerian origin, is associated with the Biafran separatist movement. On November 21, 2024, Ekpa was arrested in Lahti, Finland, along with others, on suspicion of terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and terrorism financing.
In December 2024, Päijät-Häme District Court remanded him in custody. Senior Detective Superintendent Mikko Laaksonen emphasized that under Finnish criminal law, these charges do not permit bail. Suspects must either be remanded or subject to a travel ban.
The Finnish legal system does not use “bail” in the same manner as common-law systems. Individuals accused of serious crimes (e.g., terrorism) are typically remanded in custody or sometimes placed under travel restrictions, rather than freed on bail.
Also, the claim about Ekpa’s bail has previously circulated on social media and was fact-checked.
CONCLUSION
The claim that Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa has been granted bail in Finland is FALSE as findings reveal that there is no official confirmation from court records, Finnish legal statements, or credible news outlets that he has been granted bail.
