Does This Viral Video Show Moses Ali, The 86-Year-Old Deputy President of Uganda?

On July 22, 2025, an X user posted a video of a man addressing an event/people. The post was captioned, “This is Uganda deputy president after watching this you will understand the reason why Africa is backward worst part of it you see some monkeys and baboons sitting down and clapping for this ancestor.”

VERIFICATION

NV-A subjected the keyframes in the video to Google Reverse Image search, and the result showed that it was first posted on July 18, 2025 on a TikTok account, with hashtags like #mosesali and #ugandanparliament.

Google reverse image search also reveals that the person in the video is Moses Ali, a Ugandan politician and military officer born on April 5, 1939. Ali is currently serving as the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, a position he has held since May 2021. He previously served as First Deputy Prime Minister from June 2016 to May 2021.

The 86 year old politician is facing severe pressure from the public to return from politics due to his age, but he insists that he is still strong enough to deliver for his people.

Uganda does not have an office of a “Deputy President”, but rather, the position closest to that is the Vice President, held by Jessica Alupo since June 21, 2021. She was appointed by President Yoweri Museveni and her appointment was approved by the parliament.

CONCLUSION

The claim that the man seen in the video is Uganda’s deputy president is FALSE. Findings reveal that he is the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament. Besides, there is no office of deputy president in Uganda but only the office of the Vice President.
