A video of a young lady calling out the chairman of the Economics and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the Central Bank of Nigeria, Governor is making the rounds on micro-blogging platform, X with a number of users claiming she w is the daughter of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has gone viral on X.
The 5 minutes and 3 seconds video from the alleged president’s daughter is transcribed below:
“Normally on the normal day, EFCC chairman e no suppose to be better for you. E no go better for you. Nothing concern me with EFCC staff. You see. You and Cardoso wey my papa take position compensate. That Cardoso and You. You and Cardoso ehhh. Asiwaju, dear father. Your loyalist don under your redeem. You don’t even need to contest. All you need to do is to apply for the result. When you say the highest level of corruption in Nigeria is happening under my father’s regime. EFCC. Cardoso wey never wear suit for the past 25 to 30 years. You carry compensate am. Nowthat man doesn’t know right from left, front and backs. Backs on the journey to his 2005 on behalf of my father. They are just scattering this country. EFCC chairman can’t hold common Yahaya Bello. We are just hearing billions, billions, billions.”
“You see it. You see what loyalism cost. O Daddy mie. On behalf of you, they have destroyed this country finally. There was a country called Nigeria. There is no longer a country called Nigeria. A verified X page, @peoplesbox posted the viral clip on September 29, 2024 with a caption thus reads: “The daughter of Tinubu called out the EFCC chairman and the CBN Governor.” The claim has generated 5,297 views, 49 reposts, 1 quote, 57 likes and 19 bookmarks as of press time.
Another X page, @PO_GrassRootM posted the same clip with the same caption, “The daughter of Tinubu called out the EFCC chairman and the CBN Governor”. The post has over 451,00 views, 324 replies, 2,400 reposts and quotes, over 4,700 likes and 1,100 bookmarks as of the time this report was published.
But comments under the post have questioned her identity, an X user, @sobowalejolade asked under the post, “Is this Folashade tinubu?” Another X user, @ekenekene1404 commented, “Shee this one na tinubu bikini? na lie joo”. While @AsonyeEmmanuel3 commented saying, “Someone that doesn’t sleep and working round the clock. Mummy e fokon bale one the mandate we stand Ma”
“So na compensation …not competence…small small jungle dey mature”, another X user, @Omoktp reacted under the post while @Preetymfon asked, “Is Baba Tinubu her father? If yes, why can’t she go and discuss with him behind closed doors?
VERIFICATION
According to public records and the profile of President Bola Tinubu, he has six children–three boys and three girls. Tinubu’s daughters were identified as Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Zainab Abisola Tinubu and Habibat Tinubu.
When our fact-checker closely looked and compared pictures of the acclaimed daughter in the video to that of Folashade, Zainab and Habibat, the latter does not share any striking resemblance with any of the three ladies.
However, a reverse image search of a screenshot from the video showed results that led to a Facebook page, Justadetoun where the same video was shared on September 27 with the caption, “EFCC & CBN wetin una dey do us hen E no go bettter for una oooooooooooooo. Una don mess up this country like ds. How do pple survive biko
Following the link to the Instagram profile @justadetoun on the Facebook page, the same viral video was posted there on September 27. To know more about Justadetoun, we did a keyword search ‘justadetoun tinubu’ and the first result was a video from 2022 from Channels TV.
In the video, which was an interview on Channels TV’s Rubbin Minds hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, she was identified as Adetoun Onajobi. She was quoted saying, “Tinubu is like my father-in-law, but I will never endorse his political ambitions.”
Further keyword search of the name, ‘Adetoun Onajobi’ showed multiple profiles describing her as an activist, social media influencer, a writer and the founder of D’MATRIARCH, a non-profit organisation, promoting human rights, fight social injustices. Also, her Facebook page bio reads Motivational speaker and Consistent reels creator.
Meanwhile, widening the search parameters, we uncovered her Facebook profile with a brief bio stating that she hails from Ijebu, Ogun State but lives in London, United Kingdom.
The AFP Fact-check and Daily Trust have previously fact-checked that Onajobi is not Tinubu’s daughter since 2022.
CONCLUSION
The claim that Tinubu’s daughter rained insults on EFCC chairman, CBN governor and her father is MISLEADING as the person in the viral video is not Tinubu’s daughter but a Nigerian activist identified as Adetoun Onajobi.
