Does Having Doggy Style Sex Once A Month Strengthen A Woman’s Spine For Healthy Delivery?
On July 3, 2025, a TikTok user j_st_blanket claimed that having doggie sex style once in a month strengthens a woman’s spine for healthy delivery. The post featured an image of a man dressed as a medical professional, with the inscription: “Doggie once a month strengthens a woman’s spine for healthy delivery…..Let someone give you a doggie today.”
VERIFICATION
A Healthline article explains that having sex during a healthy pregnancy is safe and may offer emotional and hormonal benefits. However, strengthening the spine especially during pregnancy involves structured physical activity targeting core, back, and pelvic muscles.
Mayo Clinic clearly states that most sexual positions are safe during pregnancy, but provides no indication that any specific position has a beneficial effect on spine strength or delivery health. In another article, Healthline further notes that doggy style is a comfortable position for those with back pain, since it limits forward-backward bending but it is recommended only for comfort, not for strengthening the spine.
MedicalNewsToday also adds that doggy style involves minimal spinal flexion, potentially making it easier on the back for some people, but again, it’s not cited for improving spinal strength or enhancing childbirth outcomes.
Further research did not unearth any evidence to support the claim that having sex in the doggy position or any specific sexual position once a month strengthens a woman’s spine or prepares her body for childbirth.
Experts Speak
NV-A contacted Dr Effiong Orok, a gynaecologist at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, who said, “there is no scientific evidence that having sex in the doggy style once a month strengthens a woman’s spine or improves the chances of a healthy delivery.” He added that spinal strength is best improved through regular exercise, core strengthening, proper posture, and prenatal care, not sexual position.
Also, Dr Suleiman Musa, a gynaecologist and lecturer with the Gombe State University’s Department of Medicine and Surgery said the claim of a link between any specific position and benefits to spinal health or childbirth outcomes was unfounded. “Doggy style can be safe during pregnancy if comfortable, but in late pregnancy, positions may need to be adjusted. It has nothing to do with strengthening the spine or aiding delivery,” noted Dr. Musa
CONCLUSION
The idea that having sex in the doggy position once a month strengthens a woman’s spine for healthy delivery is FALSE as there is no proven scientific or medical research to support the claim. Insights from medical practitioners reveal that maintaining spine health and preparing for delivery requires medically-approved exercise, good posture, and consistent prenatal care and has nothing to do with sexual position.
