CLAIM: Donald Trump Plans to Help Biafra Gain Independence From Nigeria
On February 19, 2025, a TikTok user @user1372328022725lion posted a video of Donald Trump, the president of the United States of America allegedly saying that he has decided to look into Biafra’s independence after finishing with the war in Ukraine.
This caption of this video reads: “The current president of the United States Donald Trump, has now decided to look into the Biafra in Nigeria so they can be independent #viral #DonaldTrump.” In the 30 seconds clip, Trump was quoted saying “After i finish with the Ukraine war with Russia, i will turn to Nigeria to liberate the Igbo people of Biafra, these people have suffered in the hands of the northern muslim dominated, folks continue ripping the natural resources of the southern Nigeria, mainly the people of the United State of Biafra. Nnamdi Kanu, the Biafra leader, should be released immediately.”
As of the time this report was published, this video had gained over 5,600 views, 150 likes, about 30 comments, 7 bookmarks and 88 shares.
VERIFICATION
To verify this claim, NV-A subjected this video to a deep fake/AI check using Deepware and we conducted a google search to see if any conversation regarding this has been published.
Deepware results concluded that the video had been tampered with, as the results flagged the video as suspicious.

Also, an extensive search turned up no related article from verified news platforms, corroborating the claim. Further search revealed that similar claims had been debunked last year by AFP Factcheck and Reuters.
Meanwhile, a look through @user1372328022725lion revealed that the user is a Biafran-supporter and usually posts misleading and false video contents about the Biafran movement.
CONCLUSION
The claim that US president, Donald Trump has announced helping the Biafrans gain independence from Nigeria and has called for the release of Biafran leader Nnamdi Kanu is FALSE. This claim has not been reported by news outlets and the TikTok video has been flagged as suspicious as the audio does not correlate with the visuals
