Is This Image Of A Collapsed Flyover Happen From Nasarawa State, Nigeria?
An X user posted an image of a collapsed overhead bridge alongside a screenshot of the Vanguard newspaper of July 18, 2025, which had the headline, “Keffi bridge collapses, kills 2 persons”. The poster claims that the bridge collapsed three weeks after it was commissioned. The post was captioned, “Flyover collapse after 3 weeks of commissioning in Lafia, Nassarawa State. 10 Billion was allegedly spent on the project. Investigation to determine whether the collapse was caused by structural defects or overload by heavy duty vehicles is underway.”
Another X user, @don_bariga in his response to the post said “Naija wonder! Money already stashed away for 2027, painted sepulchre mounted for show not necessarily for usage. Ike gwụrụ!” while @dblacksurvival wrote “Whatever caused it, the engineer should be arrested immediately.”
VERIFICATION
According to reports, an overloaded truck struck a beam off the Keffi flyover on July 18, 2025, causing part of the structure to fail. The accident left two people dead and others injured. This prompted a response from the Federal Government announcing a 30 day emergency repair plan on the damaged section.
Is The Circulating Image Connected To The Collapsed Keffi Bridge?
NV-A subjected the image to Google Reverse Image search and the result showed that the image was extracted from a video posted by a Facebook page, Eu amo games, on July 15, 2025, a page known for posting AI generated videos.
A visual analysis of the footage revealed signs of generative AI manipulation, including distorted structures, unnatural shadows, and unnatural human features close to the beam of the falling bridge. The page also indicated that the video was “made with AI”.
Keyword search was also deployed to know if this really happened but there has been no credible media reports or government statements confirming this viral image.
CONCLUSION
The claim that this collapsed flyover happened in Nasarawa is MISLEADING. The incident in Keffi, Nasarawa state which killed two people was a collapsed beam, not an entire flyover as depicted in the image. Further analysis shows that the image of a collapsed bridge attached to the claim is AI generated.
