Did a Nigerian Woman Die After Husband Imprisoned Her Over DNA Results?
On March 3, 2025 a TikTok user @olege.folakemi posted a commentary video claiming that a Nigerian woman named Sadiya had died in Kano state with several pictures of the victims featured in the video.
In the one minute 24 seconds footage, the TikTok user stated that after Sadiya’s husband went for a DNA test with their children, he found out that three out of their four children didn’t belong to him and after that he locked her up in a room for three months and only fed her pap once a day. The user also shared that when Sadiya’s family couldn’t get in touch with her, they went to her house and quickly rushed her to the Aminu teaching hospital in Kano state where she eventually died after three days.

VERIFICATION
To verify this claim, the researcher conducted a related keyword search and google image search for the images featured on the video. The search results revealed articles regarding this particular case, however, it showed that the particular issue narrated in the TikTok video happened around late 2022 and the person in the image featured in the commentary video is the victim, Sadiya.
The incident was covered by Daily Trust, Sahara Reporters, Daily Post and Document Women , between November 15-23, 2022. These multiple news reports explained that Sadiya was locked up for an entire year without food and activities outside. However, police authorities in charge of the case at the time said that the motive of the act was not yet known, but her husband had been arrested and handed over to the magistrate court.
According to Daily Trust, Sadiya Salihu was found and taken to the hospital by her mother. Sadiya’s mother was worried and suspicious when she was not able to reach her daughter and discovered the situation when she went to pay her a visit. She eventually died at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on Saturday, November 19, 2022. Meanwhile, the incident happened in Nguru, Yobe State and her husband, Ibrahim Yunusa Bature was arrested.
CONCLUSION
The claim that a NIgerian woman was murdered by her husband because of DNA results is MISLEADING as the name, location and image used in the TikTok commentary video were traced to a domestic and emotional abuse incident from two years ago . While it is confirmed that the victim died after being taken to the hospital, the motive behind Sadiya’s husband locking her up was never revealed to the general public and reports explained that she was locked away for more than three months.
