VERIFICATION

N-VA findings revealed that on June 19, 2025, suspected cultists carried out a shooting in Oko town, located near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra State. The shooting which took place around 8:40 p.m. at Total Junction and Tipper Junction, happened outside the campus. The Punch reports that the attackers used a motorcycle and a black Lexus SUV without license plates, shooting indiscriminately.

Daily Post Nigeria quoted the Anambra state police command, noting that two fatalities were recorded, two people were abducted and a couple of others sustained injuries. However, the Guardian Nigeria reported that local eyewitnesses and independent outlets suggest higher numbers.

All the reports confirmed that the violence was cult-related, involving rival groups in a gun clash and it took place in Oko town, the host community around the Federal Polytechnic, not inside campus premises.

Anambra police led by Area Commander Aguata and supported by a joint security taskforce comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence, vigilantes, are investigating and pursuing suspects and residents were urged to remain calm while investigations proceed.

CONCLUSION

The claim that Fulani herdsmen attacked, shot and killed many people around Oko poly is MISLEADING as findings reveal that the attack is cult related and not a herdsmen attack.
