Did Nigeria’s Enugu Rangers Recently Sign A Serbian Striker?

On September 15, 2025, a Facebook user posted on the group, ‘NPFL, NNL, NWFL News Centre’ claiming that Nigerian Premier League side Enugu Rangers had secured the services of a European player, thereby making the team the first in the country to achieve such a feat. The post which has an image of the player was captioned, “Breaking🗣 Enugu Rangers 🇳🇬have signed the European player from Serbia 🇷🇸 by the name of Samir Nurkovic,, 1st time in Nigerian history this is a huge signing and it is said dat the European player will now earn around 500k naira a month🙆🏻‍♂️.”

As of when this report was published, the post had about 14,400 reactions, comments and shares.

VERIFICATION

A Google reverse image search confirmed that the image accompanying the claim is that of Samir Nurković. Nurković is a Serbian striker who has played for several clubs, mainly in Slovakia and South Africa such as Kaizer Chiefs, Royal AM, and TS Galaxy. In November 2024, he signed an 18-month deal with Siwelele Football Club, formerly known as SuperSport United in South Africa.

There are no credible sources that support that Enugu Rangers have signed Samir Nurković. A look into Enugu Ranger’s complete team list does not have the Serbian on it. On the contrary, Nurković is fully registered and appears on the team list of Siwelele football club in South Africa as a centre forward.

CONCLUSION

The claim that Enugu Rangers had secured the services of an European player is FALSE. Checks reveal that the Serbian, Samir Nurković, is still contracted to Siwelele Football Club, formerly known as SuperSport United in South Africa.
