Is This Video About Boko Haram Celebrating Victory Over Nigerian Soldiers?

On October 12, 2025, an X user posted a video of men in military camouflage driving through the bush in jubilation, with the claim that they were Boko Haram members who were celebrating their victory over the Nigerian forces. The 1 minute and 47 seconds video was captioned “BREAKING NEWS: Soldiers in Madagascar have rejected an order to shoot protesters “Boko Haram taking over many Nigerian Military barracks & Rejoicing for their victory.”

This post has reached about 1 million people, generating  over 9,400 replies, reposts, quotes, likes and bookmarks. In the comment section, @EziokwuBuNdu16 said “I love this let them take over all the northern and south west. Good job Boko boys” while @Nithsmit wrote “These people will overrun Abuja some day The south south better join the igbos to seek for Biafra or wait to be islamized The Yorubas already have over 40% Muslims The south south should be wise now and know all the north and west want is our oil and gas”.

VERIFICATION

NV-A took screenshots from multiple angles of the video and and the result shows that the footage has been online since September 26, 2025, with the caption “Morale is high everywhere 🔥🔥 #Morale_Up … 🔥🇸🇩✌️”, when interpreted.

There were no distinct words that were spoken in the video as the audio is a combination of shattered sounds and gunshots, so the fact-checker was unable to get distinct words discernible for translation to English. A look into the activities of the handle that originally posted the video showed that he is affiliated to the Sudanese Popular Resistance and does not post things about the insurgency in Nigeria. This is further supported by a related image used for his cover picture. Another point of note is that his posts are usually written in Arabic.

The group commonly referred to as the “Popular Resistance of Sudan” (sometimes translated “Popular Resistance Brigades” or “Popular Resistance Committees”) is a loosely-organised mobilisation of civilian fighters, neighbourhood committees and other local actors allied with the Sudanese Armed Forces, SAF, in the conflict with the Rapid Support Forces, RSF, in Sudan. Snapshots from the video also show Sudanese flags on the truck and on the military uniform.

Meanwhile, a look at the X account which posted the claim showed a history of sharing pro-Biafran content. As reports by HumAngle and research by the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism highlight, Nigerian terrorists and propagandists groups have a reputation for spreading disinformation on social media.

CONCLUSION

The claim that the video happened in Nigeria is FALSE. Findings reveal that it is from Sudan and their flag can be seen displayed on the trucks and military uniform in the video.
