On November 20th 2024, An X user, @AdameMedia posted a picture claim that a BBC presenter was jailed for raping 42 dogs to death. The picture was accompanied with the caption,‘The BBC is literally never going to recover from this.’
The claim had gained over 5.4 million views, over 3,700 comments, 13,000 reposts and quotes, 54,00 likes and 5,200 bookmarks as of the time this report was published. Due to how viral the news has gone, NV-A went on to fact-check its authenticity.
VERIFICATION
The fact checker ran a search online with the keywords ‘BBC presenter scandal’ and the search turned up with results from various news outlets like; BBC, Deadline, Sky News, NBC News, and Daily Mirror.
According to these multiple reports, he was identified as Adam Britton, a leading zoologist. The British crocodile expert was jailed for 10 years and five months in Australia, after he admitted to
.nsexually abusing dozens of dogs. He also admitted to four counts of accessing child abuse material.
The court documents confirmed that Britton tortured at least 42 dogs, killing 39 of them. The 53-year-old filmed himself torturing the animals until they almost died and shared the videos online under pseudonyms. Britton has worked on BBC and National Geographic productions.
Britton is also an academic at Charles Darwin University in Australia. A look at his IMDb profile revealed that Britton presented on the BBC programme, Natural World, the episode on Invasion of the Crocodiles which aired May 9, 2007 with several other credits such as location manager, additional crew for several wildlife programmes.
A search through the BBC archives, revealed that Sir David Attenborough, a BBC veteran broadcaster filmed part of his Life in Cold Blood docuseries on Britton’s property and he has an additional crew credit for his work on the production.
