What Are String Beans?

String beans’, also known as snap beans, green beans, French beans, or haricots verts is just another name for the food item more commonly referred to as green beans. It is often found in meals like salads, stir-fries, or served as a side dish. String beans are scientifically known as phaseolus vulgaris.

Can Diabetes Be Cured?

Medical experts have said that there is no cure for diabetes yet and there is no way to completely get rid of it. NV-A had earlier reported that diabetes can however be reversed in most people.

According to a research study published by UCLA Medical School, reversing diabetes involves carefully managing blood sugars to a point where medications are no longer necessary, and staying at that manageable point through a healthy routine of diet and exercise.

What Does Research Say About String Beans and Diabetes?

There has been no medical experiment on this claim that string beans can cure diabetes. However, a research study published in The Wiley Library revealed that string beans are low in calories and carbohydrates. They reiterated that it contains fibre, vitamin C, vitamin K, and some antioxidants. Yet, these alongside the fibre content in string beans can only help with blood sugar control by slowing down the rate of absorption of glucose in the body.

A health blog on green beans and diabetes reiterated that green beans help to regulate blood sugar levels as part of a healthy diet. However, they do not have medicinal properties that are strong enough to act as a standalone treatment or cure for diabetes.

Meanwhile, leading health organizations like the American Diabetes Association, ADA, and the World Health Organization, WHO, do not endorse any specific food as a cure for diabetes. Instead, what is recommended is a balanced diet rich in vegetables, proteins, and whole grains as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan.

What Experts Says On This

Nneka Chinedu, a dietician with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, said she will “recommend string beans for any diabetic patient because it helps in stabilizing the sugar level.” She also added that she makes sure, “string beans is always on the daily menu of most of the diabetic patients I prepare food and design menus for.” Chinedu further stressed that “although this does not have any side effects or replace conventional medicine, seeking medical advice remains the best”.

Dr. Chibuike Njoku of the same hospital, when consulted on this claim said, “leave all these roadside people who will come out with fake testimonies just to sell their herbs. Diabetes does not have a cure for now. Good management and taking the recommended medications judiciously remains the safest way to stay healthy while diabetic.”

CONCLUSION

The claim that regular consumption of string beans is a remedy and cure for diabetes is FALSE. There has been no medical validity to this effect, as diabetes is not curable, but can only be managed.
